Hi, I’m Sara Schwartz and I’m a senior editor and editorial project manager at AARP based in Alexandria, Virginia.

For 20 years, I’ve worked in print and digital journalism, turning early ideas into engaging story packages at multiple publications, including AARP, USA TODAY’s Studio Gannett, Grid magazine and The Washington Post Express. I excel most at editing features-heavy service journalism: health, food, money, and essays.

For the past six years I’ve been at AARP as the senior editor for AARP Members Edition. This members-only platform features expert commentary and advice, deeply reported long reads, exclusive A-list interviews, award-winning columns and first-person essays that give voice to our often underrepresented 50+ audience.

The program earned the 2025 Folio: Eddie Award for Best Membership or Loyalty Program. The Folio: Eddie & Ozzie Awards are widely regarded as one of the publishing industry’s highest honors, recognizing outstanding editorial excellence and design innovation across digital and print platforms.

I help build award-winning editorial destinations.
